I was born to be an accountant. I may not have realized it until my first accounting class in junior college but there were signs from a very early age that becoming an accountant was going to be the perfect career choice for me.

Do you remember those grade school projects where you answered specific questions about yourself and your family? There was one booklet that I made when I was in the 3rd grade where I proclaimed that “Money!!!!” (notice the 4 explanation marks) was the birthday present I wanted most of all. For as long as I can remember, I liked money and I liked managing it.

I grew up as one of the youngest members of a large family where it became apparent that if you wanted something, the fastest way to get it was to work hard and pay for it yourself. So, I did just that. I started working, earning and spending money at a young age.

My first job was babysitting in the evenings and on weekends for several families. Luckily, it didn’t take long before there was a steady demand for my services. With my babysitting money, at 13, I was able to afford my very own phone in my bedroom. When the bill arrived each month, I gave my mom the cash to write the check.

At 16, my first W-2 job was as a bagger at a local grocery store. It was the perfect job for a student needing a flexible work schedule. I bought my first car at 16, split the cost of my dental braces with my mom at 17 and bought my second car at 19 after my first car started breaking down which was the same year I moved out of my parent’s house. I remember my budget for gas for my first car was $5 per week so I know a thing or two (or three) about living on a tight budget.

I continued working at the grocery store 32 hours per week while attending college full time until I graduated with my bachelor’s degree and started my accounting career.

Fast forward almost 30 years and I can happily report that my career as an accountant was the right choice for me. I’ve spent the last 14 years as a Corporate Controller managing people, processes and millions of dollars for businesses.

While working long hours, I had to come up with an easy and effective budget to manage my personal finances that didn’t take up a lot of my free time. I’ve always budgeted. That was the only way I could ensure that I could pay all my bills on time and make sure I was saving for retirement. That budget process is what I want to share with you. I want to help you budget like a CPA!

There are a lot of good resources available to help individuals with their personal finance journey such as finance articles, books, YouTube videos, podcasts, blogs. I’m offering personalized one-on-one budgeting services which takes you through the budget process. A budget allows YOU to decide how you want to spend and save your money. Together we will strategize the best route for you to accomplish and reach your financial goals.

If you are unable to afford professional cash flow consulting services, tell me a little bit about why you deserve a budget scholarship. If selected, you will receive a budget for free. That’s my way of giving back to the community.

Also, if you are great with managing your money and don’t find yourself needing personalized budgeting services, CONGRATULATIONS!
